Sue's Personal Profile

Sue Foster is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Colorado with a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University in San Diego, CA. She is also licensed in the State of Tennessee and California. Sue received a bachelor of arts degree from California State University, Long Beach with a major in home economics and a minor in social science. She is also licensed to teach in the State of California.
Sue's counseling experience spans more than 20 years and includes: Private practice; EAP counseling; working with clients in treatment for drug, alcohol, and other addictions; providing family preservation services for clients involved with DCS; and 7 years experience as a protective services worker for the San Diego County Department of Children's Services (San Diego, CA).
She specializes in grief counseling, especially in the area of suicide grief.
Sue is the co-author of Finding Your Way After the Suicide of Someone You Love with Dr. David Biebel (Zondervan, 2005). She knows first hand the devastation caused by losing a loved one to suicide, having lost her 19-year-old daughter, Shannon, in 1991. While living in San Diego, she served as a volunteer for Survivors of Suicide Loss as a support group facilitator and a member of the speaker's bureau.
Sue has written for magazines and other publications and has collaborated on four additional books with Dr. Biebel. She recently completed 18 devotionals for Hope in the Mourning, a new grief Bible to be published by Zondervan in 2013. She speaks at conferences, leads workshops and retreats on grief and loss, and leads a faith-based support group for those who have lost loved ones to suicide. Sue also trains therapists, pastors, and other professionals on the unique issues involved in counseling those who have loved ones to suicide.
In her free time, Sue enjoys writing, reading, spending time with friends, volunteering, doing research on a variety of topics, and studying her family history through genealogy research.
